Retention & renewals

Sell season passes with renewals + control

Season passes succeed when access rules are simple, sharing is controlled, and renewals feel effortless. Here’s the operator playbook: tiers, messaging, renewal cadence, and gate validation.

Product design: make the pass easy to understand

  • Validity: calendar year, 12 months, or a named season.
  • Entitlement: unlimited entries or \(N\) entries per month.
  • Blackouts: define peak-day exclusions upfront (if any).
  • Identity: single person, family pack, or corporate pack.

Access control rules (prevent sharing without friction)

Sharing is the main leakage in season passes. Choose controls that match your audience:

  • Per-person pass: bind to phone + optional photo on first visit; scan validates “owner”.
  • Family pass: define member slots (e.g., 4 members) and allow named members only.
  • Cooldown rules: prevent rapid back-to-back scans to block pass handoffs at the gate.

Renewal engine: reminders, incentives, and timing

  • Reminder schedule: 30 / 7 / 1 days before expiry + expiry day message.
  • Renewal incentive: small benefit (priority lane, one guest pass, or \(5\%\) off) rather than deep discounts.
  • One-click renewal: prefill details; keep payment options UPI-first.

Gate SOP for repeat visitors

  • Fast lane: separate pass holders where possible to reduce congestion.
  • Clear errors: “Expired”, “Blackout day”, “Already inside”, “Identity mismatch”.
  • Exception desk: renewal on the spot, ID update, family member changes (logged).
