The failure mode: two truths for one show
Split inventory—spreadsheet at the counter, website on another—creates oversells, angry families, and finance nightmares. Indian events often add pressure with spot cash sales, influencer holds, and last-minute corporate blocks. The operational answer is architectural: one authoritative stock ledger, short-lived seat locks, and POS clients that read the same API as your checkout.
If connectivity fails, define explicit offline rules: tiny emergency pools, manager approval, or “sell GA only” modes. Never silent offline selling against unknown web stock.
Locks, holds, and release timing
Checkout carts should hold inventory briefly—typically a few minutes—with visible timers. POS should use the same lock duration or immediate commit on payment success. When a UPI payment is pending, the seat stays locked or returns to pool on timeout; POS staff must see that state clearly.
Marketing holds and sponsor allocations must decrement availability the moment they are reserved, not when someone remembers to update a sheet.
Channel strategy without breaking parity
You can still bias inventory by channel: release batches to web first, keep a counter slice for walk-ins, or route certain tiers to partners. Those are segmentation rules on top of one pool, not separate silos with manual reconciliation.
Price parity matters for trust. If counters charge differently, document why (cash handling, bundled perks) and reflect it in reporting so marketing analytics stay honest.
Monitoring and night-of controls
Watch sync lag, failed commits, and duplicate scans in real time. Freeze risky tiers when you approach capacity. Give gate supervisors a read-only dashboard of remaining stock by section.
Post-event, reconcile web, POS, and complimentary lists in one export. Unified inventory makes that close trivial; split systems make it a multi-day audit.

Ops checklist
- One API for web + POS reads.
- Pending payments never double-sell.
- Emergency offline policy in writing.
- Supervisor dashboard at gate.
